Stimulate The Brain At Malaysia’s First Brain Expo

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) — Did you know that you could nurture your child to become a genius?
Medical research has proven that a genius brain can be developed, given appropriate enrichment from the child’s early growing years and with the right approach of nurture and nutrition.
“The golden period of a child’s brain development occurs during the first 1,365 days of their life. This is the period where eighty per cent of the structure and formation of the brain happens”, said Rohaya Mamat, Mead Johnson Nutrition’s Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Director for Malaysia/Singapore/Brunei/Indonesia.
She was speaking to Bernama on the Brain Expo that is taking place from Nov 1-4 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Rohaya said many people would define a genius as the child who comes home with straight A’s, but that was not necessarily true.
Scientific research has defined four characteristics of a genius that makes them outstanding in comparison with others.
Rohaya said these skills could be developed faster by applying the right brain stimulating activities.
GENIUSES’ TRAITS
Sharper visual acuity is the first trait. A genius will be able to see clearly and have depth perception and excellent hand-eye coordination. One way to develop this is by playing touch screen games to test visual recognition skills.
Geniuses are also able to acquire language skills fast. This includes the understanding of words, a significant accumulation of vocabulary and the ability to express themselves. Playing crossword puzzles is a good activity to test vocabulary and spelling.
Practicing pronunciation and learning to write “hello” in various foreign languages is also a good activity for this purpose.
“A genius also possesses higher intellectual development and better problem solving skills for being observant, having analytical thinking and logical understanding. Puzzles and touch screen activities will help provide their brains with intellectual exercises”, she further explained.
THE FOUR GENIUSES
The expo will also highlight four geniuses who led change and advancement in their own fields with their mental prowess and creative intelligence.
They are Ludwig van Beethoven, Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and Malaysia’s very own Tan Sri P. Ramlee.
Beethoven was one of the world’s most famous and influential composers, who continued to compose, conduct and perform even after going deaf. Visitors will have the chance to listen to some of his famous compositions.
Meanwhile, Isaac Newton formulated the Law of Gravity by observing an apple falling from a tree, and his theory on physics and mathematics remained at the forefront of science for centuries.
Albert Einstein was the genius poster boy and one of the most famous scientists of the 20th century, making many scientific discoveries, including his famous Theory of Relativity.
Local legend Tan Sri P. Ramlee was also a genius in his time. His ability to portray six roles at a time as actor, film director, singer, songwriter, composer and producer remains unmatched in Malaysian entertainment history, even 40 years after his passing.
PLAY AND LEARN ACTIVITIES
The Brain Expo, organised by Enfagrow A+, a leading brand in child and nutrition products, is the first of its kind in Malaysia.
It promises an unforgettable experience with various attractions. One of these is a giant inflatable brain – the size of a basketball court – that will take visitors on a tour through various parts of the brain and have the chance to learn its functions.
Visitors will also be given a special cap with augmented reality features that will allow them to “see” their own brain as they wear the cap.
There will also be brain-building activities for children and parents. Though the purpose of these games is to stimulate the brain cells, it can also help parents in identifying the types of games they can play with their children at home that will help in brain development.
Parents can also view real specimens of brains at the expo. They will also be able to listen to information by medical students from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
Admission to the expo is free. More information is available at the event’s official website at www.brainexpo.com.my or by calling 1-800-88-3585.
