Pharmaceutical Industry Awards Launched In Malaysia
(Marketingmagazine.com.my) – The Pharmaceutical Association of Malaysia (PhAMA) recently launched the inaugural PhAMA Awards2014 – aimed to inspire innovative research amongst industry members and even the public; fully supported by the Ministry of Health.
There are 2 categories of awards to be the most coveted:
- Ministry of Health Innovation & Research Award; carries the grand prize of RM12, 000.
- PhAMA President’s Community Impact & Awareness Award; carries the grand prize of RM8, 000.
“The pharmaceutical industry is one of the fastest expanding industries in the Malaysian economy; it has been identified as one of the key areas to help achieve the Economic Transformation Programme”, said YBhg Dato’ Eisah Bt. A. Rahman; Senior Director of Pharmacy Services from the Ministry of Health who had attended the launch.
“This industry alone is targeted to increase the nation’s gross national income contribution by 22%, delivering a total of RM16.6 billion by 2020”, Dato’ Eisa went on to say.
“The inaugural PhAMA Awards 2014 provides an excellent platform to recognize initiatives to uplift the quality of life through better healthcare. Indeed, this is a good start!” she added.
Also at the launch were Encik Amrahi Buang; Chief Pharmacist from University Malaya Medical Centre and Deputy President of Malaysian Pharmaceutical Society as well as Mr Yew Wei Tarng, President of PhAMA.
“With assistance from the Government, there have been greater investments in healthcare, more incentives to stimulate growth. Trends in the global marketplace have also influenced our development in areas such as high-value bio-generics, growth of the halal pharmaceutical products market and stronger regulations to protect intellectual property rights”, Amrahi commented at the launch.
Mr Yew had his own comments as well, “We are pleased to introduce the inaugural PhAMA Awards 2014 as it will further drive our talent pool to pursue promising ideas and nurture collaborations that could lead to new discoveries. This is just the beginning as we strive to fulfill our mission of providing innovative medicines for Malaysia”, he said.
PhAMA’s ultimate aim is to ensure access to quality healthcare and healthcare products for all Malaysians and is comprised of 44 local and multinational companies who are involved in research and development, manufacturing, marketing and sales and the distribution of innovative medicine in Malaysia.
