Promoting bone health
REMEMBERING your glass of milk every morning is only half the mission accomplished to make sure your bones get their calcium.
Bringing to light a study conducted that found up to 60% of calcium we consume may not be absorbed by our bodies, Anlene introduces a new breakthrough formula designed with FOS-Inulin, a unique mixture of dietary fibres from plant origin, to enhance calcium absorption and bone strength.
Speaking at the recent product launch at 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Bandar Utama Damansara, Dr Lee Joon Kiong said: “Calcium absorption is affected by factors including age, lifestyle choices and dietary components.”
Lee, who is the president of Osteoporosis Awareness Society of Kuala Lumpur, also pointed out that calcium loss happens daily through elimination of bodily wastes such as urine, feces and sweat.
According to the doctor, bone disorder osteoporosis may be genetically determined and a natural ageing process but it is fully preventive by choice of lifestyle and diet.
The launch, which was organised in conjunction with World Osteoporosis Day 2013, serves to create awareness and publicise the importance of bone health and mobility.
This event was a result of a recent survey among Malaysians on their perception of bone health and what they are doing to manage it.
The survey found that 30% of Malaysians still do not include more than one serving of calcium-rich food in their daily diet, with some two-thirds of Malaysians (58%) unaware of the required minimum daily intake of calcium for their age.
Essentially, insufficient calcium intake and low calcium absorption may put people at risk of developing poor bone health as calcium is the most crucial element in aiding the development of strong bones.
Calcium supports the bone remodelling cycle by replacing old bones with new ones.
Since there is no escaping calcium loss without a drastic change to our lifestyle, Anlene’s new formulated dairy products are a solution to help our body retain as much calcium as possible.
With just two glasses a day of Anlene with FOS-Inulin, our body will not only receive all the daily calcium and vitamin D it needs but also other nutrients needed for strong bones such as protein, magnesium and zinc.
Fronterra Brands (M) Sdn Bhd managing director David Ross said that the launch of Anlene with FOS-Inulin products in conjunction with World Osteoporosis Day is in line with the company’s ongoing efforts to promote bone health research and clinical trials.
Hence in an effort to prompt Malaysians to take action, Anlene organised a range of activities at the shopping centre’s concourse area from Oct 16 to 20, which included bone health check counters, product tasting and more.
Adding to the excitement at the launch were Anlene brand ambassadors, television personalities Phoebe Yap and Aidid Marcello Azahari, who were present to emphasise the importance of bone health awareness.
