Prostate cancer linked to Y chromosome in men

Research conducted by the University of Utah School of Medicine, US, shows that the Y chromosome in men increases risks to prostate cancer
A new study that was conducted in Boston, US, has found that the Y chromosome in men increases risks to prostate cancer. Dr Lisa Cannon-Albright, professor and chief of the division of genetic epidemiology at the University of Utah School of Medicine, US, who is also the study leader presented the results at the research presented at the American Society of Human Genetics meeting.
Dr Cannon-Albright revealed that if a father has prostate cancer, his son and grandchild will also develop this disease because of the Y chromosome. There were 498 men involved in the study from which 65 had prostate cancer.
The team of researchers compared the number of prostate cancer they were expecting for with the real number of men who actually had the disease and discovered that 9.5 cases were in the group of men predicted for having prostate cancer.
